Secondary schools in Busia county have improved in performance from last year’s Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination results released on Monday.
Butula Boys National School in the Butula sub-county topped the county by producing 16A,57A-,85B+,89B,60B-, and 54C+ with a mean score of 9.1 points.
Out of 377 candidates who sat for the KCSE examination last year, 361 students gained direct entry to the university.
They dropped a 1 point in mean score from last year’s performance of 9.2 points to 9.1 points, however, last year the school had only 6A compared to this year’s 16A.
Kolanya Girls National School came second in the county by producing 4 A,43A-, 45B+, 70 B, 55B-, and 40C+.
Kolanya recorded an improvement in mean score compared to last year with a mean score of 8.7 points this year compared to last year’s mean score of 7.3 points.
Out of 280 candidates who sat for the examination last year, 257 students will go directly to the university.
For the second year consecutively Busiada girls’ secondary school in Butula sub-county is defying the odds, by being among the best-performing schools in the county.
The girl’s school produced 3A-, 21B+,34B,33B- and 29C+ with a mean score of 8.2 points.
Out of 140 candidates who sat for their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examination last year, 120 students got direct entry to the university.
Last year the school came third in the county after Butula Boys National School, and Kolanya Girls National School with a mean score of 8.2 points
Nambale Boys High School recorded 6A-, 13B+,21B,32B-, and 53C+ in the released examination results by cabinet Secretary of Education Mr Ezekiel Machogu.
The best candidate last year scored B+ with a mean score of 5.6 compared to this year’s mean score of 6.1.
The school managed to secure 125 students directly to the university from 332 students who sat for their KCSE exams last year compared to 81 students in 2022.
The best student at Kolanya Boys’ School scored A-, with eight students scoring A-.
St Stephens Lwanya Girls’ High School in Matayos sub county produced 1A-, 15B+,68B,72B- and 91C+.
Out of 316 candidates who sat for their KCSE exams last year in the school, 247 of them will be going directly to the university.
