‘Goons’ Demolish DP Ruto’s Venue in Kilifi Prior to his Visit

The venue where the Kenya Kwanza Alliance rally was to be held in Kilifi was last night vandalized by goons under claims of family land issues.

This happened when UDA supporters in Kilifi were anticipating to see Deputy President William Ruto, ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula sell their manifesto only for the venue to be vandalized by ‘unknown’ individuals.

Addressing the media at Mbuzi Wengi grounds in Kilifi where the venue had been set earlier, Kilifi North MP Owen Baya condemned the act emphasizing  that the action was political-based and not land related as claimed.

He said the culprit who claimed to be a member of the family in ownership of the land was used by Governor Kingi to disrupt the meeting.

According to Baya, members of Pamoja African Alliance(PAA)  arrived last night and demolished the venue on claims that PAA owns Kilifi county.

He added that anyone who has a different political persuasion is free to organize a political meeting in Kilifi without selfishness.

“I am warning the perpetrators and reminding them that Kilifi hosts different supporters from different political parties. Governor Kingi should be cautious of his actions because his term has come to an end and should therefore pave way for other political parties. Governor Kingi  should not destroy Kilifi politics using tactics similar to those of Mombasa Republican Council(MRC) which involve using the youth  to disrupt political meetings in Kilifi,” he remarked.

He warned Governor Kingi to stop disuniting Kilifi residents as the county is made up of various  tribes and different political parties.

The alleged owner of the land, Jonathan Charo Nyundo distanced himself from the claims saying he had offered permission for the event to take place on the grounds.

He persisted that the land bears no disputes and thus expressed his disappointment with the claims.

“I offered the land to be used as a rally ground and there is no land disputes as claimed by some people who are close members of the family,” Charo said.

Security sector led by Kilifi OCPD Jonathan Koech who had halted the preparation of the venue temporarily later gave a go ahead of the preparations as Ruto’s supporters eagerly waited for their leader.

Kenya Kwanza Alliance rally is scheduled to run for two days in the Coast region starting with Taita Taveta, Kilifi, Mtwapa today where they will proceed to Mombasa and Kwale tomorrow.
