Funeral-cum-clash of the titans was witnessed at the funeral of the spouse to former Minister and Rongo Member of Parliament Dalmas Otieno, Mama Jane Otieno, as Migori leaders took turns to poke on each other, while mourners gets entertained by words in their agony.
First on the receiving end was Uriri MP Mark Nyamitta, who was told off by Migori governed Dr Ochillo Ayacko to focus on his roles as a legislator and demonstrate his achievements instead of claiming credit for initiatives not linked to his efforts.
The MP who has been a darling to the State House for what they term as a developmental visit, despite being elected on the opposition wing, has constantly been on the receiving end from his party members, for his support President William Ruto.
While defending his association with the President, Nyamita asserted that their efforts had yielded positive outcomes, including settling debts owed by Sony Sugar Company and supporting local farmers.
However, this statement was not received lightly by the governor, who narrated the process of debt cancelation of the sugar millers, outlining that it was Awendo MP who made the request and not Nyamitta.
Concurrently the legislator has been constantly on the record highlighting the allegations of incompetence by the governor, while calling for his head in the coming elections.
During the funeral, Mark Nyamita indirectly accused the governor of incompetence and advocated for his removal in the upcoming elections.
His claims were thrashed imminently by the governor, who asserted that the MP lacked the authority to determine who should or should not be voted into office
Nonetheless, Awendo MP Walter Owino emphasized that leaders should concentrate on their individual responsibilities and refrain from prematurely judging Ayacko’s performance.
Owino urged for unity among Migori leaders and suggested that Governor Ayacko should be evaluated at the appropriate time during elections rather than through public squabbles.
Spiting his frustration on protocol breach during the event was Migori Senator Eddy Oketch, who expressed his frustration with some leaders for favoring certain junior members and individuals aligned with the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
He stressed on the importance of respect among Migori County leaders and warned against such disruptive actions.
