Good news for Kenyan content creators as Facebook’s parent company, Meta, announces plans to launch new features that will help them earn money from June, 2024.
This announcement came during a special event at the State House attended by President William Ruto.
“We’re happy to announce that soon, Facebook will have ads during videos, starting in early summer,” said Moon Baz, who’s in charge of partnerships at Meta for Africa, the Middle East, and Turkey.
Nick Clegg, who used to be Britain’s Deputy Prime Minister and now works at Meta, praised President Ruto’s efforts to support Kenyan creators.
“It’s time for creators to turn their creativity into something valuable,” he said.
The new money-making features will benefit Kenyan creators, especially those who make content in English and Swahili.
To qualify, creators need at least 5,000 followers, have posted five videos recently, and have had 60,000 minutes of video views in the last two months.
President Ruto is optimistic about the initiative, saying it’s a good move for Kenya’s creators and entrepreneurs.
“This is a positive step toward empowering creators and entrepreneurs, a fulfillment of the bottom-up economy,” he said.
The president also announced that Meta will include M-Pesa as a payment option, to make it more accessible to many users.
With these new features on Facebook, Kenyan content creators can expect more opportunities to earn money and grow their businesses in the digital world.
