Nairobi-based lawyer George Kithi who is vying for Kilifi gubernatorial seat has urged the coast residents to embrace Pamoja African Alliance(PAA) as their own for the benefits it bears to the region.
Kithi is one of the lawyers that participated in defending the formation of the Building Bridges Initiative(BBI) and after its downfall, he has gone back to the drawing board to defend PAA, a political party he explains will bring back coast region resources to full potential fruition.
Speaking at Chonyi in Kilifi county during a political rally, Kithi said most of Coast-based industries have collapsed while natural resources have not been tapped fully due to political reasons.
“We want our Kenya Ports Authority, coconut, and korosho industries to be on the forefront and given equal chance as other natural resources in other areas. The economy of the coast region must be considered and given equal chance,” Kithi remarked.
He argued that all along the coastal region has lacked a strong political party at the national level to ensure that all the resources at the coast are beneficial to the residents.
He added that some of the conditions that they gave to the Azimio la Umoja were to bring back port operations to the port of Mombasa.
“We want operations to be brought back to the port of Mombasa within the first hundred days when the next government is formed, which will be Azimio la Umoja and this is our irreducible minimum,” Kithi added.
Kithi explained that PAA was formed to ensure that residents benefit from their natural resources and elevate themselves from poverty-stricken lives.
Kithi remarked that people from the coast region are suffering due to joblessness while most of the job opportunities are given out to non-residents.
He assured that having political leaders from PAA will ensure that industries are revived, more employment opportunities are created while ensuring that the economy of the coast region is brought back to its feet.
Kithi campaigned for PAA saying it will ensure that the residents have better lives by revamping the economy of the coast region.
Just recently, PAA leader governor Amason Kingi hit the news headlines when he outlined the conditions the party signed upon an MOU with Azimio la Umoja while joining Azimio through the Jubilee party.
Aspirants across the coast are joining PAA from other political parties including Chasimba ward MCA aspirant Wilson Shoka who joined yesterday from the Jubilee party.
PAA is in Azimio la Umoja Alliance and supports Raila Odinga as the next president but wants all the electoral positions from governor to MCAs to come from the PAA party in order to have a strong voice at the national level.
