The Turkana Urban Water Company has formally assumed management of the Lodwar Water and Sanitation Company (LOWASCO) following a shareholder resolution at LOWASCO’s annual general meeting.
The transition marks the beginning of a new era in water service delivery in Lodwar and eventually all urban areas in Turkana.
Deputy County Secretary Dr. Gamoe Albert Locham praised the officials of Turkana Outsource Company for facilitating the handover and urged the new leadership of the Turkana Urban Water Company to provide improved services.
“Now the Turkana Urban Water Company can take off after this handover,” Dr. Locham stated.
CECM for Water Services, Patrick Losike Lokaimoe, emphasized the importance of maintaining a connection with LOWASCO’s management for information sharing and learning.
“Let me request that the Turkana Urban Water Company make contact with the managers of LOWASCO for the purpose of information sharing and learning.
You can borrow from their history to enrich service delivery to the residents,” said Lokaimoe.
The transition was overseen by Catherine Njeri Mburu, a qualified company secretary, in the presence of county solicitor Ruth Emanikor.
Partner organizations represented included USAID Stawi, TUPADO, Wetland International, WHH, IRC, and WRA, among others.
The County Government was represented by the Chief Officer of Water Services, Simon Etom, Director of Water Services, Paul Lotum, and Deputy Manager of Lodwar Municipality Simon Nangiro.
The Turkana Urban Water Company Board of Directors, led by their chair Philip Ebei Aemun, were also present.
