At least 180 students from Nyatike Constituency are set to benefit from free educational funding under the Mwangaza Scholarship, an initiative by area legislator Tom Odege.
The fifth cohort of the educational grant were on Thursday flagged off at the constituency headquarters based at On’ger trading Center and are set to join Mawego Technical Training institute where are expected to pursue Diploma Courses in various spheres.
Mwangaza scholarship program is an education empowerment scheme aimed at funding vulnerable learners in the semi-arid constituency.
Launched in 2018, the scheme has come in handy in ensuring that bright but needy students secure full funding in tertiary institutions.
Speaking during the launch, Nyatike CDF chairman Mr Felix Oloo called on the beneficiaries to maximize their full potential and ensure the opportunity is not wasted.
“This is a noble initiative that will cushion parents from high fees currently being charged at institutions of higher learning. I call on the learners to fully utilize the rare opportunity to realize their academic potentials.”
Felix Oloo, Nyatike CDF chairman
Ms Jacinter Achieng, one of the beneficiaries lauded the move terming it a rare gesture by the area MP “who was keen on empowering the vulnerable constituents.
“I would like to thank our MP for extending an olive branch to the less fortunate,. We now have where to start from and we promise to deliver since the future now looks promising,”

Last year, the first cohort of the scheme graduated from Rongo University and Mawego Technical Training Institute with the rest expected to graduate in subsequent years.
