Residents of Masara town in Migori have urged the county government to improve the social amenities of their urban market.

The Chairperson of Masara Transporter Sacco Keven Ouma said that the town was in a poor state endangering the lives of the business personnel and residents of the area.

The town which is located in Suna West Sub County along the busy Migori-Sori/Muhuru Road lacks basic social amenities like an ablution block, cabbage collection point, street lights, Bus Park and water.

In 2020 the County Government of Migori built an ablution block that has never been installed with water.

Ouma called upon the county municipality management to operationalise the amenity to help the local business community in the area.

He also noted that the urban town lacks a proper cabbage-collecting system point yet they were paying taxes to the county government.

“We used to have a cabbage container where we collected and dumped our cabbage awaiting recollection but it was removed early last year without any explanation”, lamented Ouma.

The official explained that there was a danger of a cholera outbreak if the cabbage menace and clean water points are not addressed soon.

The town had provided a lot of opportunities to the local residents through the boda boda and taxi business, gold mining, small and medium scale businesses improving the living standards of the locals through a reduction of the crime rate and unemployment.

“Our youths have been empowered byMasara town through gold mining and boda boda sector. If the social amenities will not be soon addressed and checked the crime rate will return and unemployment will increase”, said Ouma.

The Secretary of Masara Transporter Sacco James Otieno pinpointed that there were a lot of boda boda accidents because the town lacked a bus stage.

He emphasised that boda boda and taxi park along the busy Migori- Muhuru-Sori road awaiting clients and in the process endangering their lives as well as the lives of their customers.
