Matayos Member of Parliament Mr Geoffrey Odanga has threatened to sue the Busia County government for failing to fund cultural events in Constituencies across the county.
Mr Odanga during Bukhayo cultural events at Mundika noted the constituencies through the National Government Constituency Fund (NG-CDF) are unable to organize meaningful cultural events in their respective constituencies due to a lack of resources yet the county receives money to organize cultural events across the county.
“The reason why we don’t conduct proper cultural events in our constituencies as Busia-based members of parliament is because we don’t receive enough support from the county government. The county governments should be facilitating cultural events across the county because it has the money for the events.”
He added, “For the last three years the county government has not given us the money to organize cultural events and as Matayos Member of Parliament I want to tell Busia county government to give us the money failure to do so, we are going to the court to seek an injunction preventing the county from using money meant for cultural.”
Mr Odanga faulted Otuoma’s government for failing to deliver development projects in the County saying that the governor has ‘lost a truck.’
“I am trying to return our governor on track, he has lost direction. It has been one year since he has been in the office. We are yet to see any development project anywhere in the county. Most roads not just in Matayos constituencies but other constituencies are in bad condition yet they are supposed to be worked on by the county government.” Said Mr Odanga.
The MP vowed that from next year he will push Governor Otuoma’s government to deliver to the people of Busia.
“Next year, I am not going to give the county government peace. They must wake up and serve the people of Busia. They must bring development money allocated to the Matayos constituency through repairing of roads among other projects,” he said.
He dismissed the ongoing Industrial park project Nasewa in his constituency terming it as a scam project that is heading nowhere.
According to him, ‘the project will not materialize due to rampant corruption from the county government officials.’
“I have said this before and I will still repeat it, nothing is going on at Nasewa. The contractor is yet to be paid his money. I am waiting to see the white smoke from the project, it is when I will join them, though the idea is good,” he said.
Odanga’s sentiments come barely a day after Governor Paul Otuoma was denied the opportunity to address people at Marenga beach in Budalangi during the Bunyala cultural events where Azimio la Umoja principals attended including ODM chief Raila Amolo Odinga, DAPK party leader Eugene Wamalwa and Roots party leader George Wajakoya in what is believed that the county government failed to fund the activity.
