Migori County had the distinct honour of hosting Gentian Serbu, the Romanian Ambassador, at the State House for a collaborative discussion on Agriculture, Information Communication Technology (ICT), and emergency response capacity building.
Governor Ochillo Ayacko welcomed the esteemed guest, highlighting the country’s potential in agriculture and the need for enhanced emergency response capabilities.
During the visit, Ayacko expressed gratitude for the Romanian government’s sponsorship of a learning tour, bringing two delegations from Migori to Romania.
The focus areas included Information Technology (IT), Waste Management, Emergency Administration, and Agriculture. Ayacko emphasized the county’s richness in fertile soil, favourable climate, and enthusiastic citizens as valuable assets for agricultural development.
Governor Ayacko detailed the county’s resource channels, citing funding from shares, local revenue, and collaborative partnerships, both domestically and internationally.
The Romanian Ambassador commended Migori’s agricultural potential and shared insights on Romania’s success in agricultural production and emergency administration.
Notably, the Ambassador highlighted a significant agreement signed on December 18, 2023, between AU and Kenya.
This groundbreaking pact ensures that Migori County can export its products to Romania without facing taxation hurdles, fostering economic growth.
In her address, Ambassador Sebru underscored the paramount importance of education, stating, “Education is crucial; we shape the future of our country on the foundation of education.”
This sentiment resonates with the shared commitment to developing Migori County’s capabilities in alignment with Romania’s expertise.
The collaborative spirit between Romania and Migori County signals a promising future, emphasizing sustainable agriculture, advanced ICT practices, and efficient emergency response mechanisms.
