Migori County Public Service Board Ready to hire after winning a long court battle barring it from performing its mandate
Following the judgement rendered by the Court of Appeal in Kisumu that quashed the appeal to stop the board from carrying out its duties, the county public service board has sighed relief as it will now undertake its hire and fire role.
This was revealed during a media briefing by Migori Governor Dr Ochilo Ayacko, who welcomed the judgement that was read by Court of Appeal Justices Hannah Okwengu, Ann Omondi and Joel Ngugi.
Dr Ayacko affirmed that the board will be free to employ going forward after fighting a court battle with former board chairperson Mr Jared Kopiyo.
The governor said that the board now chaired by the new chairperson engineer David Ochola will observe all the prerequisites of the law and will hire new staff to aid in service provision to the residents of Migori County.
Moreover, he revealed that the board will also ensure discipline in the service by streamlining areas where there has been negligence of duties and service provision.
“To benefit the people of Migori County, the board will hire the most qualified, dedicated and disengage with those who do not want to work because there is no time to rest and the board will promote or recommend promotion to those who deserve a promotion because human capital is key to service delivery,” said the governor.
Ayacko also emphasized that the implementation of the 2022 human resource audit will begin without further delay, noting that the audit report exposed about 290 county staff who had no requisite qualifications.
“The outcome of the from Kenya National Examination Council 290 suspected case of an irregular or forged certificate, 93 of 290 were verified and confirmed, 197 out of 290 needed further scrutiny,” he explained “
Similarly, Migori County Deputy Governor Dr Joseph Mahiri stated that the ruling will now allow the board to execute their mandate professionally with zero corruption, and integrity and they will be guided by the provision of the constitution.
“This board will operate with zero corruption in discharging its mandate, shall be guided by the provisions of the constitution and integrity of the board shall be followed,” said Dr Mahiri.
