As Ramadhan draws to a close, the spirit of giving shines bright in Kibarani area of Kilifi County, where more than 3000 poor individuals have received food aid to mark the joyous occasion of Zakat al-Fitr, preparing them for the grand celebration of Eid al-Fitr.
The generous donation came courtesy of Direct Aid International, a Kuwait-based humanitarian organization operating in Kenya, to alleviate the suffering of needy people in the community.
“The food distribution is a heartfelt gesture to support those who have observed fasting during Ramadhan, allowing them to fulfill their Zakat al-Fitr obligation and share the blessings of the festive season with others in need, all for the love of Allah,” expressed Abdulrahman Sheikh Ahmed, the Manager of Direct Aid’s Kilifi branch.
He further explained that the food donation targeted 700 families, each with more than five members, and was conducted in various parts of Kilifi, including Kaloleni, Sokoni, and Malindi among other regions along the Coast.
Last week, Direct Aid International distributed food donations to more than 1500 flood victims in Tana River County, 1200 needy people in Lamu County, and over 1500 in Kilifi county to foster religious observance during the holy month of Ramadhan.
Highlighting the challenges faced by many in the community, Kibarani Assistant Chief, Andrew Kingi, emphasized the pressing need for such charitable interventions.
“Many families are struggling, with children unable to attend school due to financial constraints. Individuals are approaching offices with complaints of insufficient food amidst soaring living costs and deep-seated poverty,” he stated.
In response to these challenges, Kenga Mwanyanje, the Assistant Chief of Konjora area, called for solidarity, urging additional organizations to extend their helping hands, particularly to regions like Ganze, grappling with the harsh aftermath of drought and economic hardship.
Expressing gratitude towards Direct Aid International, voluntary community leader Mumina Alaso urged other well-wishers to continue supporting the community.
“The transformative impact of the food aid is immense, not only fulfilling Zakat al-Fitr obligations but also providing sustenance for the grand celebrations of Eid al-Fitr,” she emphasized.
Reflecting on the community’s unity fostered by the food distributions, beneficiary Hawaa Abdalla highlighted the importance of communal support in upholding religious observances.
“Sharing has brought joy and solidarity among the less fortunate, enabling them to fully participate in religious festivities,” she noted.
Beneficiary Fatuma Khamis shared the hardships endured during Ramadhan, emphasizing the invaluable lifeline provided by the food aid, while Mariam Said echoed sentiments of gratitude towards Direct Aid International, urging fellow Muslims to demonstrate religious virtues by extending compassion and support to one another during times of need.
Zakat al-Fitr, a charity given to the needy at the end of Ramadhan, ensures that everyone can partake in Eid celebrations, underscoring the spirit of unity and compassion within the community.
