Police Impounds 9,460 Rolls of Bhang at Rabai, Kilifi County

Police have impounded 9,460 Rolls of bhang being transported to Mombasa from a neighboring country with an estimated value of more than Ksh 1 million street price.

The lorry ferrying the consignment was flagged down at Kokotoni area along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway in Rabai sub-county.

Addressing the media at Rabai police station, Kilifi County deputy police Commander Willy Simba said that the consignment contained 16 sacks packed with 9,460 rolls of bhang.

Simba said the police managed to arrest and detained the lorry’s driver who initially had attempted to escape and is yet to be arraigned in court on Monday 7th with the offense charge of being in possession of the narcotic drugs illegally.

He said the driver mentioned other culprits involved and the police are yet to arrest them.

“My team and I are still conducting investigations of other suspects the driver mentioned to have been involved in this illegal business. We will arrest them, detain them in police custody after which they will face the arm of the law. Be assured we will strongly fight against contraband goods in Kilifi and beyond,” said Simba.

He warned citizens that the law enforcers and multi-agency team are keen to stop such illegal business.

He said an intensive crackdown along the highway is underway, aiming at nabbing all contraband goods being trafficked to the county and the borders.

Simba lauded members of the public for their cooperation in providing them with the information.

Fredrick Abuga, Rabai Sub-county OCPD confirmed that the consignments had been imported from saying it was being transported from Kenya’s border beside the neighboring country.

Abuga explained that Rabai police officers on duty hauled the truck numbered KBR 090N to the police station and recovered all the illegal goods.

The sacks of bhang are still lying at the Rabai police station awaiting court rule on disposal.
