The Chief Officer for Health Services in Migori County, Mabel Chanzu, has reported a suspected Mpox outbreak that has yet to be confirmed.

During the launch of the Causality Unity, Cancer Care Unit, and Gastroenterology Unit at the Migori County Referral Hospital, Chanzu noted that the county has been able to screen 1,000 individuals at the border points of Isebania and Muhuru.

The County’s Referral Hospital has already put screening services in place to ensure adequate surveillance and prevent the outbreak.

Chanzu called on residents to revert to COVID-19 measures to ensure high hygienic measures to curb the Mpox outbreak.

The Mpox outbreak was declared on July 31 following the confirmation of one case in Taveta-Taveta County.

Chanzu noted that the launch of the Causality Department and emergency medical care plan in partnership with the Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation will strengthen the emergency health response systems in Migori.
