The Orange Democratic Movement ODM will maintain its presence within the national broadbased government until the next general election in 2027, effectively honouring the political roadmap set out by the late party leader, Raila Odinga.
This firm commitment to stability and continuity was articulated by Seme Member of Parliament, Dr. James Nyikal, who also rallied party members to reject divisive speculation and embrace the unity championed by the former Prime Minister.
Speaking during the official launch of the Magwar Police Post in Seme Constituency, Dr. Nyikal addressed the palpable political uncertainty that has gripped the nation, and the party in particular, following the demise of its towering figure.
He emphatically stated that the party’s immediate focus remains on executing the vision of national cohesion and development established under the current governance structure, a framework he confirmed would remain intact until the electoral cycle of 2027
.“We are still in the broadbased government, exactly as the late Raila Odinga had explained while he was alive,” Dr. Nyikal told the attendees.
“Our role, as the ODM party, will be to offer direction and guidance closer to 2027. For now, the commitment to national unity and inclusive governance remains paramount, a testament to the legacy our former leader left behind.”
The MP’s statement serves as a powerful call for calm and unity within the ODM rank and file. Dr. Nyikal cautioned party members against succumbing to the rumour mill and speculation, which he warned could foment unnecessary division among the Kenyan populace.
He urged for patience, stressing that the current political path is deliberately designed for the betterment of Kenya as a whole, transcending narrow political interests.
Furthermore, Dr. Nyikal took the opportunity to commend the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) for their swift and decisive action in nominating Siaya Senator Dr. Oburu Oginga as the acting party leader.
He lauded the choice, describing it as a move that guarantees both continuity and stability during this critical transition period for the party.
“I must praise the ODM committee for their wisdom in nominating Dr. Oburu Oginga as our acting party leader,” he remarked.
“I ask all ODM members across the country to stay calm and allow us to walk in this shared path. This is not just for the good of the party, but for the betterment of our entire country, Kenya.”
The Seme MP underscored the colossal national effort the late Raila Odinga spearheaded to unite all Kenyans, irrespective of their political, ethnic, or social backgrounds.
Dr. Nyikal argued that it is now the high time for all citizens and political actors to wholeheartedly embrace and consolidate the foundation of unity and peace that their former leader established.
By staying the course in the broadbased government, the party aims to solidify national reconciliation and advance the core principles of equitable development and inclusive politics that defined Odinga’s later years in politics.
The message is clear, the ODM ship is steered towards stability, unity, and a phased transition in line with the established political blueprint.
