At least 13 people have tragically lost their lives and dozens more have been injured following a devastating road crash involving a Coast Bus at the notorious Migaa black spot on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway early Tuesday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 5:00 AM when the Mombasa-bound bus, carrying passengers from Kisumu City, lost control and veered off the road. According to local police reports and rescue teams from the Kenya Red Cross, the bus rammed into barriers and collided with several other vehicles, including a saloon car, before plunging into a ditch.
Rescue teams from the Kenya Red Cross, alongside police officers and local volunteers, rushed to the scene of the accident to assist in evacuating the injured and retrieving the bodies of the deceased. Those injured in the crash have been transported to nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred at a well-known black spot notorious for previous road crashes. The Migaa black spot on the Nakuru-Eldoret highway has a history of deadly accidents, prompting calls for urgent road safety measures.
Kenya’s National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on the roads, especially at known dangerous areas such as Migaa, particularly during night and early morning hours when visibility is low.
The accident is a somber reminder of the dangers on the country’s roads and the need for improved road safety measures to prevent further loss of life.
