Afya Sacco has appointed CPA Lwanga Mbeche as its new Chief Executive Officer, marking a new chapter for one of Kenya’s largest deposit-taking Saccos serving health sector professionals.
Mr. Mbeche joins Afya Sacco after a successful six-year tenure as CEO of Kimisitu Sacco, where he oversaw tremendous growth in membership, assets, and digital transformation.
He also spearheaded the society’s expansion into new markets, including Kisumu and Mombasa, and steered it to ISO 9001 certification.
With more than 20 years of experience in the cooperative movement, Mr. Mbeche brings a wealth of expertise in financial reporting, strategy, digital innovation, and organizational transformation.
He has held senior management roles for over 15 years, earning recognition for steering Kimisitu to accolades such as the Gold Mark Award (2023) and CIO100 recognition for digital excellence.
An alumnus of Nairobi University,KCA University and the United States International University (USIU), Mr. Mbeche holds an MBA in Strategic Management and a degree in International Business Administration and currently pursuing PHD in Finance.
He is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and an active member of both the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the African Development Educators (ADE).
In a statement congratulating him, ICPAK described Mr. Mbeche as a leader whose “consistency, excellence, integrity, and impactful leadership will drive digital innovation and strengthen institutional capacity.”
