Ayacko; Ruto’s Pledges in Migori Take Shape

Migori Governor Dr Ochilo Ayacko has confirmed the rollout of key development projects promised by President William Ruto during his recent visit to the county, signaling movement on some of the national government’s pledges to the region.

Speaking during a press briefing at the Migori County statehouse, Ayacko said the tender for a modern stadium in Migori had been issued, paving the way for construction to begin.

The facility is expected to serve as a key sporting and social infrastructure for the region’s youth.

“We are partnering with the national government to deliver a stadium for Migori County as promised in my manifesto. The tendering process is underway. This was one of the commitments made by the President and we are seeing the early signs of implementation,” Ayacko said.

In addition, the expansion of Lichota Airstrip has commenced, with the runway set to be extended to 1.2 kilometres.

The upgrade is expected to improve local, national and regional air connectivity and support economic activities.

“The contractor has already moved to site. This is part of broader efforts to enhance transport infrastructure in the county,” the governor added.

Ayacko also disclosed that the construction of modern markets in various sub-counties is scheduled to begin before the end of the month.

These projects aim to support small-scale traders with better working conditions and boost local commerce.

The governor urged other counties to align with ongoing development plans and tap into available national government support through structured partnerships.

President Ruto visited Migori County two weeks ago, where he launched and promised a raft of projects, including the construction of a pier at Muhuru Bay, expansion of technical training facilities, affordable housing units in Kuria West, and revival of Sony Sugar through new management.

The developments come as political leaders across the region continue to weigh in on the pace and scope of government-backed projects in counties perceived to be in the opposition strongholds.
