Residents of Kibish Sub-County are set to benefit from major infrastructure improvements after the county government completed a 60-kilometre road project and initiated yet another 50-kilometre road project in the area.
The completed road runs from Koyasa through Kaitede to Natapar, in which bush clearing, grading, and graveling of previously existing but dilapidated roads and the opening up of new passageways were undertaken to produce a continuous 60-kilometre stretch.
This project, part of Governor Lomorukais’ grand plan to open up the area for socio-economic transformation, is the first of its kind by government authorities in the area since independence.
“We are highly satisfied with the work done by the contractor,” Chief Officer for Roads and Public Works, Engineer Mark Achila, said.
The chief officer spoke at the site after leading a team of road engineers from his department in inspecting the works to facilitate the issuance of the certificate of completion to the project contractor.
Chief Officer Mark Achila insisted that the works were ordered by Governor Lomorukai in a bid to improve the transportation network and facilitate trade through a roads infrastructure for easy movement of goods and services.
Additionally, the Chief Officer expressed optimism that the new road would enhance security by reducing the bushy spots used by bandits as hideouts.
The new road further promises to boost the area’s potential for international trade, given its strategic proximity to both Ethiopia and South Sudan in the so called Ilemi triangle area.
In a related development, Kibish Sub-County will also benefit from another 50-kilometre road connecting Kaitede Junction to Kading’etom.
The contractor for this new project was officially unveiled and handed over the site to commence work.
Chief Officer Achila urged the new contractor to maintain the high standards set by the previous project.
The area’s Member of the County Assembly, Hon. Simon Naoyakope, and the department’s director of administration, Joshua Napoco, accompanied the Chief Officer during the exercise.
