Busia County Partners with UK in Launcing Agricultural Digital Platform worth Kes 640million

The Busia County government in partnership with the British High Commission has culminated the launch of the Community Action Plan and Agriculture Digital Platform.

The platform worth Ksh640 million will be implemented both in Busia and Mandera counties.

Busia County governor Dr. Paul Otuoma noted that the digital program will empower farmers, especially the youths, womenand persons with disabilities, to access agricultural services in real updates.

These include services such as market, farm inputs and outputs to monetize the rural economy.

“We celebrate the collaboration of the UK government to revolutionize the agricultural ecosystem and management of resources,” said the governor

This,he added, will unlock opportunities for our young people and the marginalized groups, and improve their livelihoods through agricultural productiong.

Speaking during the launch Deputy British High Commissioner, Dr. Ed Barnett reaffirmed their commitment to the continued partnership between the UK Government and Busia County, through the provision of digital skills and training opportunities.

“I urge our young people and marginalized groups to embrace the digital program to revolutionize agriculture and take advantage to supply raw materials to the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and also at the County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) at Nasewa, Matayos Constituency,” he said.

The projects are earmarked to create over 5000 job opportunities and connect farmers to markets, give access to agricultural services across the county, and offer real-time weather updates, market information, and growth management advice.
