Uriri parliamentary aspirant Evans Ogutu has urged the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leadership to immediately conduct constituency elections in Uriri, in compliance with a recent court ruling that nullified the earlier exercise.
In a judgment delivered on 3 December 2025, the court found that the previous ODM Uriri constituency branch elections were not properly conducted, thereby declaring them invalid and ordering a repeat poll within the stipulated timelines.
The ruling specifically noted that no legitimate branch elections took place as scheduled on 9 April 2025, describing the process that followed as irregular and unlawful.
The court further faulted the adoption and ratification of a list of Uriri constituency officials, citing breaches of ODM’s elections and nominations rules.
This formed a key basis for the nullification of the purported elections and effectively questioned the legitimacy of the current constituency leadership.
The decision has set the stage for a renewed political contest between CPA Evans Ogutu and Aloo Muga over the ODM Uriri branch chairmanship, with the ruling widely viewed as a boost to Mr. Ogutu’s bid.
The judgment casts doubt on Aloo Muga’s position as the sitting chair, terming the process that installed him as procedurally flawed.
Speaking to journalists, Mr. Ogutu called on the ODM leadership to respect the rule of law and promptly implement the court’s directive, emphasizing that the exercise is crucial in upholding the party’s long-standing commitment to democracy.
“According to the court’s directive, the constituency elections were to be conducted within one month from the date of the ruling.
However, following the demise of our party leader, we allowed space for mourning and party arrangements, trusting that everything would proceed as planned thereafter,” Ogutu said.
The chairmanship aspirant underscored the importance of the pending elections, noting that the outcome would significantly influence the region’s political direction.
He stressed that democracy, transparency, and fairness must take center stage in the repeat poll.
Mr. Ogutu also appealed to Uriri residents and ODM supporters to remain calm and patient, expressing confidence that the party would soon roll out the election process and address the grievances raised.
“This process is not just about leadership positions but about restoring faith in the party’s democratic values,” he added.
The ODM leadership is yet to announce a date for the repeat Uriri constituency elections.
