The political landscape of Karachuonyo Constituency officially gained a major contender this weekend after former Homa Bay County Supply Chain Management Director, Samson Okumu, formally declared his bid for the parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
After months of speculation and countless calls from his supporters to state his intentions, Mr. Okumu finally announced his candidature during a fundraiser held on Sunday at Miyuga Catholic Church in Wang’ Chieng’ ward.
The declaration, made at an event presided over by Father George Kizito, sent an immediate ripple of excitement through the congregation and quickly became a talking point across social media platforms.
”The news spread like wildfire,” a local resident, who requested anonymity, was quoted saying.
Mr. Okumu, who was the chief guest at the church function, used the platform to confirm his political ambitions. However, he also urged constituents to exercise patience, stressing the importance of accountability.
”Allow the current leadership, elected in 2022, to fulfill their mandates before delivering judgment,” he stated, underscoring that the next election must be defined by performance and accountability.
Well-known for his deep-rooted connections to Karachuonyo’s grassroots and extensive public service experience, Mr. Okumu commands respect across the political spectrum.
His hands-on approach and visibility in community matters have made him a recognizable figure in the densely populated and politically vibrant constituency.
Karachuonyo, a critical electoral area in Homa Bay County, has a history of robust political competition, with recent leaders belonging to the ODM party.
Political analysts suggest that Mr. Okumu’s entry could attract strong momentum, potentially securing widespread backing through strategic alliances.
The upcoming race is now shaping up to be a closely contested battle, reflecting the dynamic political scene.
As the 2027 election year nears, all eyes will be on how Mr. Okumu and other aspirants position themselves in a constituency eager for effective leadership and tangible developments.
This announcement marks a significant step for Okumu as he embarks on the challenging journey to serve Karachuonyo at the national level.
