Four Feared Dead in Road Accident at Kibuon, Nyakach

Tragedy struck early this morning along the Oyugis-Kisumu highway at Kibuon in Nyakach when a 14-seater matatu rammed into a stationary trailer that had developed mechanical issues and was parked by the roadside.

According to Nyakach OCPD, Mr. Laurinus Odinga, the accident, which occurred at approximately 6:00 AM, claimed the lives of four people, including three students from Ober Boys Boarding Primary School and the matatu conductor.

The students had been picked up from their school at around 5:00 AM before the tragic crash took place an hour later.

Mr. Odinga further confirmed that the matatu was overloaded, carrying a total of 20 passengers instead of the required 14.

Sixteen passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to Nyabondo Hospital for medical treatment.

He urged motorists to exercise caution while on the road to prevent such tragedies and ensure the safety of passengers.

Authorities are currently investigating the incident to determine the exact cause of the accident.
