Kilifi County Governor Gideon Mung’aro has issued a challenge to Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leader Raila Odinga, urging him to endorse the former Mombasa Governor as his successor in leading the party
Mung’aro said that Ali Hassan Joho, due to his unwavering loyalty to the ODM party and Raila Odinga, should be the one to lead Kenya’s most popular political party.
The campaign to replace Raila, in the event he becomes the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson, has seen Joho and former Kakamega Governor Wycliff Oparanya, both deputy party leaders, emerge as contenders.
“The Coast residents have remained staunch supporters of the ODM party and our leader, Raila Odinga. It’s time for a Coastal representative to step up as Raila transitions to the AUC. When that moment arrives, it should be Joho who takes the reins of the party,” he emphasized.
Mung’aro pledged to gather support from Coast Governors to endorse Joho as the next leader of the ODM party.
“As the chairman of Coast governors, I will unite all governors, regardless of party affiliation, to back Joho as the future leader of ODM,” he asserted.
