The African Talent University (TATU) has recorded a major boost in student admissions after more than 200 learners were placed at the institution through the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
Speaking in Kisumu, TATU Founder Professor Humphrey Obora said the latest intake has increased the university’s student population to over 550 across various academic programmes.
However, Professor Obora expressed concern over the low enrollment of students from Kisumu County, revealing that 92 percent of the newly admitted students come from outside the county, while only 8 percent are locals.
He attributed the trend to limited public awareness that TATU is fully accredited and listed on the KUCCPS placement portal, making its students eligible for Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) loans and government scholarships.
To encourage more local students to enroll, the university will hold a Career Open Day on August 14 in partnership with the Kisumu County Government and other education stakeholders.
The event will guide prospective students on KUCCPS applications, HELB registration, and available academic programmes.
The university offers degree programmes in Management and Psychology, with specialized training in Business Innovation, Green Economy, Blue Economy, Public Health, Engineering, Medical Enterprise, and Sports Management.
Professor Obora said TATU charges KSh 47,000 per semester, making it one of the most affordable private universities in the region compared to the average KSh 70,000 charged by similar institutions.
The university also promotes a talent-based education model that combines classroom learning with practical experience, using specialized assessments to identify students’ strengths and support innovation, entrepreneurship, and recognition of prior learning.
Meanwhile, the institution has appointed Dr. Redemptah Yeda as the Acting Vice Chancellor.Dr. Yeda, a public health expert with qualifications in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Public Health, is expected to steer the university’s academic growth and strengthen its commitment to quality higher education.
