Bungoma court has released a man who was arrested by the DCI detectives in a Ksh. 7 million deal where he supplied a faulty CT scanner machine for scanning brain and other body parts of the body to give internal images.
The accused was awarded a tender in June 2022 after his company, SOCOMED, met the required qualifications for the supply of the CT scanner.
In her ruling, Magistrate Harriet Getenga granted the suspect with Sh. 800,000 bond.
Further, the Magistrate said that the case will be mentioned on 14 March 2024 virtually.
The suspect’s lawyer dismissed the DCI’s reports that he had disappeared, affirming that he has always been available for questioning and probe.
“There have been mere allegations levied upon my client, I want to assure that he is available to respond to any queries that would be raised upon him,” the lawyer stated.
He added that the suspect should not be accused of being unheard.
The lawyer pleaded with the Magistrate not to grant the accused person a bond beyond his reach saying that she will be denying his (accused) constitutional right noting that bail is not meant to be punitive but to ensure that the accused person attends court.
