Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning John Mbadi has lauded Awendo Member of Parliament Walter Owino for what he described as an impressive development track record anchored on close engagement with the electorate.
Speaking during an inspection tour of ongoing national government projects in Awendo Constituency, Mbadi said the rapid transformation being witnessed in the area was a clear demonstration of servant leadership and responsive governance.
The CS challenged elected leaders across the country to remain accessible to wananchi and prioritize public concerns, emphasizing that citizens are the true employers of leaders.
“Leadership is about listening to the people. The electorate are our employers and we must always give them a listening ear. Hon. Walter Owino has demonstrated that when a leader works closely with wananchi, development becomes visible and impactful,” said Mbadi.
Mbadi noted that Awendo Constituency has continued to witness significant infrastructural growth, ranging from road improvements, expansion of learning institutions, electrification programs, water connectivity projects and modernization of public facilities.
The Treasury CS particularly commended the legislator’s commitment towards uplifting the education sector through improved learning infrastructure and support programs aimed at increasing school enrollment and academic performance.
“I am impressed by the investments being directed towards education in Awendo. Construction of classrooms, improvement of school facilities, bursary support for needy students and empowerment of learning institutions are critical investments that secure the future of our children,” Mbadi stated.
The CS further reaffirmed the national government’s commitment towards accelerating stalled and ongoing projects within the constituency, noting that the Kenya Kwanza administration remains focused on equitable development across all regions.
During the tour, Mbadi inspected several infrastructure projects including road networks expected to ease transport and open up the region for economic growth. He observed that improved infrastructure would significantly boost trade, agricultural productivity and access to essential services.
The CS also used the occasion to drum up support for President William Ruto ahead of the next general election, arguing that the broad-based development agenda being implemented by the government was already bearing fruits in many parts of the country.
“The government of President William Ruto is committed to transforming livelihoods through infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic empowerment. We are seeing these gains even here in Awendo,” Mbadi remarked.
On his part, MP Walter Owino reiterated his commitment to championing development projects that directly improve the welfare of residents. The legislator said education remains one of his key priorities, adding that empowering learners through quality infrastructure and bursary programs would help unlock opportunities for young people in the constituency.
Owino highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at improving educational standards, including renovation of dilapidated classrooms, construction of new laboratories, expansion of Early Childhood Development facilities and support for tertiary education students through constituency bursaries.
“Education is the greatest equalizer. My administration remains committed to ensuring that every child in Awendo accesses a conducive learning environment regardless of their background,” Mr Owino had stated earlier.
The MP further pledged to continue working closely with the national government in ensuring completion of key infrastructure projects expected to stimulate economic growth and improve living standards for residents.
Residents and local leaders who attended the event welcomed the continued collaboration between the national government and local leadership, expressing optimism that the ongoing projects would accelerate socio-economic transformation in Awendo Constituency.
