Michael Omamba, a recent Moi University economics graduate, was found dead in a pool of blood near his home at Police Line estate in Migori Town early Tuesday morning, sending shockwaves through the community.
The young man’s brutal stabbing death has deeply shaken the Omamba family, a prominent political dynasty in Migori, known for its influential figures, including the late Uriri Constituency MP Odhiambo Omamba, Michael’s grandfather, and North Kanyamkago MCA George Omamba, his uncle.
According to Kennedy Odhiambo, another grandson of the late MP, Michael had been staying at his father’s house while actively seeking employment.
He was last seen alive the previous night. “We were alerted by a distressing call and rushed to the scene, only to find him lying in a pool of blood with visible stab wounds. He showed no signs of life,” Kennedy recounted.
Police swiftly responded, launching an investigation and transferring Michael’s body to Migori County Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Detectives are working to uncover the cause and circumstances of his death.The tragedy has stunned Migori residents, who described Michael as a calm, humble, and friendly young man with no known enemies.
“He was a peaceful soul who never quarreled with anyone. It’s unthinkable that someone would do this to him,” said one of his uncles.
The Omamba family is reeling from a double blow, as they were already preparing for the burial of the late MP’s wife, who recently passed away.
Now, they face the heartbreaking task of arranging a double burial.
Gerald Odhiambo, the eldest brother of the deceased MP, shared, “At 6:30 am, my son Charles called about an emergency at Migori Hospital. This tragedy compounds our grief. We were struggling to give our mother a proper send-off, and now this—it’s unbearable.”
Migori County leaders, including Speaker Christopher Rusana, have extended condolences to the family.
Addressing the press, Rusana expressed sorrow over Michael’s untimely death and confirmed he had spoken with the Sub-County DCI Commander, who assured a thorough investigation.
“This is a devastating loss. I’ve been assured that justice will be served. We urge security agencies to leave no stone unturned in this probe. Losing such a bright young mind is a tragedy for our nation,” Rusana stated
.As investigations continue, the family is appealing to the government to expedite the process and ensure accountability.
“We trust in justice. Michael did not deserve this fate,” said Elisha Omamba
