Migori Senator says he will do what is just should DP impeachment deliberations come to the Senate

Migori Senator Eddy Oketch has affirmed that he will do what is just for the people of Kenya if the Deputy President’s impeachment deliberations come to the Senate floor.

Oketch who spoke in his Migori Office said that the people of Migori elected him as a level-headed person, a fair person and a very just person to do what is required in discharging his senatorial mandate.

The Senator explained that once the House receives the impeachment deliberations initiated by the National Assembly the Senate will take its course.

He noted that the impeachment deliberations that will come to the Senate floor will be on the basis of allegations and it will be the function of the Senate to discuss and deliberate on those allegations.

The legislature said that if the impeachment deliberations initiated by the National Assembly are founded based on law, and issues that have constitutional merits on an impeachment, the Senate house will take charge and impeach the Deputy President.

Oketch affirmed that the Senate will be a good arbitrator that will make sure that the impeachment process is free, just and fair.

He added that the Constitution under Articles 94-96 requires the National Parliament to oversee the Executive, noting that the two houses must constantly make sure that they hold the Executive to account.

He, however, disclosed that Members of Parliament and Senators once elected become National Leaders mandated to engage in national discourse in terms of the laws of the country.

“If any person wants to be a regional leader he or she should seek the governorship or Member of County Assembly (MCA) position to propagate his or her regional agenda”, said Oketch.
