Senatorial aspirant Kennedy Oluoch Nyamula has appealed for restraint, dialogue, and unity within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) following growing signs of internal strain and political realignments within the party.
Nyamula, a life member of ODM and a 2027 senatorial aspirant for Migori County, urged party members and leaders to prioritize cohesion and shared values over factional competition, warning that unchecked infighting could weaken the party’s longstanding bond with the people.
“ODM has always drawn its strength from unity, discipline, and its deep connection with the grassroots,” Nyamula said.
“At this critical moment, we must lower the political temperature, embrace dialogue, and remember that our common purpose is to serve the people, not to divide ourselves.”
While acknowledging that internal debates and differing opinions are natural in a democratic party, Nyamula emphasized that such differences should be addressed through transparent and structured party mechanisms rather than public confrontations that risk eroding public confidence.
Nyamula, who has unsuccessfully vied for the senatorial seat in previous election cycles, attributed his past losses to weak leadership structures and flawed party nomination processes.
He noted that unfair and opaque party primaries have, over the years, disadvantaged many capable aspirants, often edging them out in favor of incumbents, thereby breeding discontent and discouraging fresh leadership.
“We cannot ignore the pain and frustration that flawed primaries have caused many loyal party members,” he observed.
“If ODM is to remain credible and competitive, we must confront these challenges honestly and reform our internal systems.”
The senatorial aspirant reiterated his long-standing call for internal reforms within ODM, particularly the need for transparent leadership structures, inclusive grassroots engagement, and free and fair party primaries.
According to Nyamula, these reforms are essential in restoring trust, strengthening party unity, and preparing the movement for future electoral contests.
