A police officer attached to Migori police station shot and killed his wife before turning the gun and killing himself on Saturday 19 at night.

According to the police report, OB No: 05/20/02/2022 AT: 0251HRS, the officer identified by the name Antony Mwangi Njuguna aged 29 years had killed his wife Maureen Moraa Kiriago aged 27 years before turning the rifle on himself. 

The incident happened at the victims’ place of residence at Kawa Junction in Suna Central Location of Suna East Sub-County, Migori County.

Antony was reported to have booked off duty at the report office at 2310hrs and proceeded to the house without handing back his ak47 firearm Serial Number 60030673 to the armory.

Later on in the night, George Mureithi, an officer who was on night patrol around the Ombo area received a call from the victim’s neighbour about the gunshots.

“A neighbour had called informing him that his colleague who they lived within the same plot has shot himself and his wife in their rental house.” the report says. 

Officers led by the OCS Migori police station rushed to the scene and established the incident.

The officer found the subject rifle at the scene with a magazine having 13 rounds and 17 cartridges of spent cartridges.

It is not yet established the motive behind the incident. However, the report indicated that the neighbours heard a quarrel between the couple before hearing gunshots. 

The bodies were taken to Migori Teaching and Referral hospital for further post-mortem.
