Interior Principal Secretary Dr Raymond Omollo appealed for calm and peaceful coexistence among Migori residents, warning against violence and the misuse of youth in political disputes ahead of planned gatherings, including the “Linda Ground” events in Migori.
Speaking at separate functions in the county, Ps urged leaders to refrain from inciting or using young people to settle political scores.”We will not allow violence and intimidation to take place in Migori County.
We won’t allow youths to be used to settle brawls,” PS Omollo said.He highlighted government interventions in the region, including efforts to restructure the mining sector to prioritise local participation and opportunities for those interested.
“Locals have not benefited from mining,” he acknowledged, adding that the government was addressing this through reforms.
PS Omollo also called on youths to engage in productive programmes such as the Nyota project, a national youth empowerment initiative providing business start-up capital and skills training.
“We know what Ruto has done for the Luo,” he said, referencing development efforts in the community.
The statements came during three separate events: a fund drive at Sota SDA Church in Nyatike, voter registration and listing at Masara, and a Kuppet thanksgiving service at Vannah Hotel in Migori town.
Uriri MP Mark Nyamitta echoed calls for dialogue, saying leaders should negotiate with the national government on tangible benefits rather than positions alone.
“We are going to vote Ruto for what we have seen in Luo that has never happened. We want negotiation beyond position. We want to negotiate on what we are getting,” Nyamitta said.
He mentioned “25 billion in circulation”, apparently referring to economic injections of funds to various projects, and stressed accountability among leaders for their performance.
He called leaders who have not performed to be sent home and those capable of delivering to be elected.
Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko reiterated his focus on service delivery, distancing himself from active politicking.
“I am still working and not yet politicking as the governor you elected,” Govenor Ayacko said.
The remarks reflect growing political tensions in Migori and parts of Nyanza, amid preparations for opposition-led “Linda Mwananchi” mobilisations, which have seen sporadic clashes elsewhere.
Leaders present emphasised unity, accountability, and youth empowerment to foster development without disruption.
