Residents of Kakrao area in Suna East, Migori County are raising alarms over a disturbing increase in cases of insecurity, as over 30 people have reportedly been brutally attacked by a group of unidentified youths. The attacks, which have been happening in the area, have left the community in constant fear. The motive behind the assaults remains unclear, with attackers seemingly refraining from stealing from their victims.
Acting Chief Wyckliff Onyango expressed his deep concern, revealing that last weekend alone, ten people fell victim to this criminal gang. “The attacks are not only violent but also puzzling, as the perpetrators do not seem to be after valuables,” Onyango said, urging the need for a coordinated effort between the local community and security forces to dismantle the gang and restore safety to the area.
One of the challenges identified by Onyango is the reluctance of many victims to report these incidents, which hinders swift action by authorities. He highlighted the importance of creating an environment where residents feel safe to come forward and share information, crucial for tackling the rising insecurity.
In response, residents are calling for urgent action from the government and security agencies. They are demanding the establishment of a local police post to ensure quicker response times and better law enforcement presence in the area. The community claims that current police responses have been delayed, citing the lack of vehicles for patrols as a key reason for the slow action.
As the situation continues to escalate, the residents are urging both the county and national governments to prioritize their safety and take concrete steps to address the growing threat.
