The Deputy President William Ruto cannot implement the two thirds gender rule if he forms government, Kilifi leaders allied to Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition have said.
Led by governor aspirant Gideon Mung’aro said that the failure by Ruto to choose a woman running was an evidence enough that he has no agenda for women.
“If he says that he will implement the two thirds gender rule in his administration yet he did not bother to go for a woman as running mate. That is a sign of a leader who cares less about women. If you look at our Azimio Presidential candidate Raila Odinga, he went for a woman running mate and opened the window for women empowerment in his regime,” said Mungaro.
Mung’aro said this in his campaign tours in Rabai Sub County on Monday where he added that his choice of a female running mate, Flora Chibule was a good head start for women in Kilifi County.
“We are not promising because in implementing the two third gender rule I picked Ms. Chibule as my running mate. That is what we need to show by example and not promises. The others are prophets of doom,” he said.
Kilifi Senator Stewart Madzayo also poked holes into DP William Ruto’s two third gender rule saying that he was misleading Kenyans.
“How do you say that you can implement the two third gender rule while in real terms you are filling your top appointments with men instead of women? That is daylight lie,” he said.
Azimio youth leader in Kilifi Fikirini Jacobs said that the DP was lying to Kenyans that he will implement the two third gender rule while in reality, he is doing the opposite.
He added that the only leader people and especially women can bank on is Raila Odinga who has shown his love and care for women in this country.
“The DP went ahead and picked Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate. If he was serious about gender then he would have gone for a woman running mate. Mr. Odinga went for Martha Karua, clearly defining where he stands for when it comes to gender. So the only leader we can bank on to address gender issues is Mr. Odinga,” said Fikirini.
