Sagero Mixed Secondary School, a public mixed boarding institution located in Suna West Sub-County, Migori County, has posted its best-ever performance in the recently released 2025 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.
Out of 148 candidates who sat for the exams, 32 secured a mean grade of C+ and above, qualifying them for direct university entry. This marks a significant milestone for the school, which has historically operated as a sub-county level institution with steady but modest results.
Notably, two candidates achieved an A- (minus) grade—a rare feat for the school. According to school records, this is only the second time an A- has been recorded since the school’s inception, with the previous occurrence in 2015 by a single candidate.
This achievement stands out as the highest individual performance in the institution’s history.
Principal Mr. John Odingo attributed the impressive results to several key strategies, including the provision of partial scholarships to top-performing KCSE candidates, early and comprehensive syllabus coverage, and strong motivation for teachers. “These efforts have created a focused learning environment that has paid off this year,” he stated.
However, the principal highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly financial constraints among parents, which often lead to absenteeism among learners and hinder school operations. He called for continued and increased support from stakeholders to address these issues.
The school leadership commended the Suna West parliamentary representative, Hon. Peter Masara, for his consistent backing, including visits and contributions to the school’s development.
They urged other leaders, parents, and community members to step up involvement to sustain and build on this momentum.
Sagero Mixed Secondary School, classified as a Category 3 public boarding school under the Competency-Based Education framework, continues to emphasize holistic student development amid the transition to the new curriculum.
This record performance demonstrates the potential of targeted interventions in resource-constrained settings and serves as an inspiration for similar institutions in the region.
