Over 100 women and youths in Seme Constituency were yesterday granted funds from the Uwezo Fund, an initiative aimed at boosting local businesses and improving livelihoods.
The funding initiative is championed by Seme Member of Parliament, Dr. James Nyikal, who is focused on economically empowering a greater number of constituents.
Speaking on the disbursements, Dr. Nyikal confirmed his commitment to ensuring that those already running projects will secure additional funding from the Uwezo kitty. He also strongly encouraged women and youths who have not yet formed groups to do so, emphasizing that forming a registered group is a prerequisite for eligibility.
”These funds are meant for you people, and therefore you need to form groups so as to be eligible for getting these funds,” Nyikal stated.
The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support.
Mary Auma, the chairlady of the CK Women Group, praised the Seme CDF’s efforts in securing the crucial funding for their small businesses.
”We are very happy with what the Seme CDF is doing in ensuring that we get Uwezo Fund to help us in our small businesses,” Auma said, extending thanks to Dr. Nyikal for his “unwavering support” for women and youths in Seme.
Auma’s group was among the beneficiaries, receiving Ksh 200,000 to empower their collective income-generating activities. She echoed the MP’s call, urging other youths and women to join groups so they too can benefit from the government’s economic empowerment programmes.
