City based lawyer Gad Awuonda’s bid for the Senate is fast gathering steam as grassroots support across the region pushes his name to the centre of the political conversation.
What began as quiet consultations has now grown into a full-blown campaign momentum, with local leaders and residents openly urging him to take up the senatorial mantle.
Known as a passionate advocate for well-designed public policy frameworks that advance human well-being, particularly in developing societies, Awuonda is presenting himself as a reform-minded statesman at a time when many voters say they are tired of business-as-usual politics.
His message of competence, compassion and accountability appears to be resonating strongly on the ground.
“I have watched how public service has become too casual, yet people are suffering,” Awuonda says, expressing concern over what he terms growing incompetence in both national and county governments.
He argues that poor planning and lack of seriousness in public office continue to derail development and undermine service delivery.Residents say this frankness is exactly why they are backing his senatorial bid.
“We need someone who understands policy, not just politics,” said Mark Otieno Ouma, a trader in Migori town centre.
“Awuonda speaks about real issues—health, jobs, and dignity for our people. That’s why we are pushing him to run.”
Another resident, Jane Akinyi, noted that the Senate needs leaders who can rise above partisan noise.
“He is not about empty slogans. He listens, and that is rare. We want him to represent us at the national level,” she said.
Awuonda has been vocal in opposing what he describes as empty and cynical political propaganda, instead calling for honest public discourse focused on improving the quality of life for ordinary citizens.
He champions clean, serious politics free from demagoguery, while acknowledging the realities of the current political landscape.
“You must engage the system as it exists to earn the mandate to change it,” he often remarks, a stance that has further endeared him to supporters who see him as both principled and pragmatic.
With locals increasingly rallying behind his candidacy and campaign activity gaining pace, Awuonda’s senatorial quest is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched races in the region.
