Three gang members lynched as one escapes death in Lodwar town

Three members of a notorious gang that has been terrorising Lodwar town were stoned to death by angry residents.

In an incident that occurred at Season Hotel in Lodwar town, one of the gang escaped death mysteriously after breaking loose from the angry mob.

According to witnesses, an armed gang of 4 equipped with an AK-47 rifle loaded with 4 ammunition, machetes and knives stormed the hotel and started spraying bullets aimlessly at hotel attendants and customers.

However, the gang ran out of ammunition before the angry mob dashed on them with kicks and blows.

The gang managed to escape from the hotel before they were pursued and stoned to death.

The motive of the attack is yet to be established and as a result.

The police have already launched a manhunt in search of one of the gang members who escaped from the scene with injuries.

Speaking to journalists in his office, Lenny Njeru the OCPD for Turkana Central said that the security team managed to recover one firearm, knives and a Panga.

He reported that money worth Sh500, 000 was lost following the incident. 

The OCPD noted that there have been a resurgence in theft with violence targeting business operating until late in the evening.

A week ago, a petrol station near Turkwel Bridge was robbed and thousands of shillings by an unknown group of gangs.

Residence now wants the Police team to beef up security within the town and another market centre such as Kanamkemer to enable traders to operate without fear.

They added that a crackdown should be launched on motorists operating without number plates on their motorcycles as the one used to bring the robbers to the scene of crime lacked number plates.

The bodies of the deceased were collected and taken to Lodwar Referral and Teaching Hospital to await post-mortem reports.
