It was a sad ending to Azimio La Mumias when Ugunja Member of Parliament Opiyo Wandayi’s bodyguard was attacked by unknown goons in the glare of police officers amidst the crowd as Raila Amollo Odinga gave his speech on Saturday in Bomani Grounds, Mumias.

The goons started beating up Samson Ogaja when he tried to shield them from snatching a gun belonging to Martha Karua’s female bodyguard.

“I was protecting the female bodyguard, only for them to descend on me with blows and rungus,” Ogaja said.

They took advantage of the rowdy crowd and ensuing commotion to beat Ogaja with crude weapons, including a hammer.

Etenje ward MCA aspirant, Bernard Osore Shiracko alias ‘Kijana Mdogo’ who was just leaving the event saw the attack and commanded them to stop assaulting the security officer.

Responding to the media about the attacks Shiracko explained how he saved the tragedy and with the help of his supporters, rescued Mr. Ogaja, put him in his car and sped away with him as the goons pursued them, still baying for his blood.

“I had to run away with him from the scene because I feared they would vandalize my car as they were still pursuing him,” Shiracko said.

The young politician, who is also the Secretary General for DAP-K in Mumias West Sub County took the victim to Sabatia where the bodyguard had left his luggage at the beginning of the rally.

It is then that the bodyguard met his other colleague who had heard about the attacks but was unable to save the situation in time.

Considering that the victim was muddy and covered with blood stains, the aspirant booked a room in a hotel for the victim to clean himself, and organized for his first aid admission in a nearby health facility.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that during the commotion, the goons stole the gun belonging to Martha Karua’s bodyguard.

However, the two radios belonging to Mr. Ogaja were recovered.

“Ubarikiwe sana bro kwa roho yako nzuri, na nitakuombea upate hicho kiti,” Ogaja said after regaining consciousness.
