Awendo Constituency has taken a significant step toward enhancing public service delivery and improving livelihoods through the launch of a major borehole project alongside the operationalization of new administrative units.
In a landmark event held at Ombasa Comprehensive School, the constituency, in partnership with the Lake Victoria South Water Works Development Agency, officially commenced the drilling of a borehole aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for both students and the surrounding community.
Speaking during the launch, Member of Parliament Walter Owino emphasized the transformative impact of reliable water access on community well-being and development.
“This borehole project is not just about water; it is about dignity, health, and opportunity for our people. By ensuring reliable access to clean water at Ombasa Comprehensive School and the surrounding community, we are laying the groundwork for improved education outcomes and better livelihoods,” he stated.
The borehole initiative forms part of a broader water access program being rolled out across the constituency. Areas such as Siruti, Angaga, and Bongu have already been earmarked as the next beneficiaries in an ongoing effort to expand water infrastructure and ensure no community is left behind.
In parallel with these development efforts, Awendo Sub-County has also witnessed a major administrative milestone with the operationalization of new government units. This move, facilitated by the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, is expected to bring services closer to the people, enhance security, and create employment opportunities.
The newly operational units include:
Divisions:
- Mariwa
- Kuja
Locations:
- Waundha
- Rabondo
Sub-Locations:
- Waware North
- Waware Central
- West Waundha
- Nyarago
- Waola
- Kwe
- Waora
- Kadera Kwoyo East
MP Owino expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Interior and National Administration for supporting the initiative, noting that the decentralization of administrative services will significantly improve efficiency and responsiveness in governance.
Since assuming office, the legislator has prioritized infrastructure development, water accessibility, and social services as key pillars of his leadership agenda. The combined rollout of water projects and administrative units underscores a strategic push to accelerate grassroots development and enhance service delivery.
As the country moves closer to the 2027 general elections, these initiatives reflect a deliberate focus on tangible, people-centered projects aimed at improving living standards and fostering inclusive growth across Awendo Constituency.
The collaboration between national government agencies and local leadership continues to play a critical role in addressing long-standing challenges and unlocking new opportunities for residents.
