Leaders from the Nyanza region have intensified a united push for accelerated infrastructure development, signaling a new era of cooperation following the recent political rapprochement between the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) under the broad-based governance framework.
The leaders, drawn from across the region, have welcomed the collaboration, noting that it provides a rare opportunity to fast-track key development projects that have long stalled due to political differences.
Speaking during the official opening of the Siaya Community Digital Hub in Bondo Town, Awendo MP Walter Owino underscored the importance of unity in driving meaningful development.
The event was graced by ODM Party leader Oburu Oginga and Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning John Mbadi.
“This is a defining moment for Nyanza. For a long time, development has been slowed down by political divisions. The broad-based arrangement between ODM and UDA now gives us a platform to collectively lobby for resources and ensure our people benefit from national projects,” said Owino.
He lauded the establishment of the Siaya Community Digital Hub as a transformative initiative aimed at empowering youth and enhancing digital inclusion in the region.
“The digital hub is not just a building; it is a gateway to opportunities for our young people. It will equip them with critical digital skills, open up employment pathways, and position Nyanza as a competitive player in the digital economy,” he added.
Senator Oburu Oginga, who spearheaded the initiative, emphasized the need for leaders to move beyond political rivalries and focus on service delivery.
“We must embrace unity of purpose. Development is not about parties; it is about people. By working together with the national government, we can unlock the full potential of our region,” said Oburu.
On his part, CS John Mbadi reiterated the government’s commitment to equitable development across all regions, noting that the broad-based arrangement is already bearing fruit.
“The government is keen on ensuring that no region is left behind. The cooperation we are witnessing today is a clear indication that we can achieve more when we work together. Infrastructure development—be it roads, ICT, or energy—is central to our economic transformation agenda,” Mbadi stated.
The leaders highlighted that key infrastructure priorities for Nyanza include expansion of road networks, enhancement of digital connectivity, improvement of health facilities, and modernization of educational institutions.
Political analysts say the growing unity among Nyanza leaders could significantly shift the region’s development trajectory, especially if sustained cooperation with the national government translates into increased budgetary allocations and timely implementation of projects.
The Siaya Community Digital Hub stands as a symbol of this renewed commitment, reflecting a broader vision of inclusive growth and regional empowerment.
As the region embraces this new political and development paradigm, residents remain hopeful that the unity among leaders will deliver tangible and lasting change.
