In a major boost to the education sector, Awendo Constituency has been recognized for the prudent use of funds allocated through the National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF). The constituency was recently celebrated with the ground-breaking of new classrooms as part of the NG-CDF Best Practice Demonstration Programme (BPDP), underscoring the commitment to enhancing educational infrastructure.
The ceremony, held at Ombasa Primary School in Awendo Constituency, Migori County, was led by Mr John Aluoch Olago, NG-CDF Board chair.
He was joined by Hon. Naomi Masitsa and Dr. William Sugut, Directors of the NG-CDF Board, as well as other key stakeholders.
The new classrooms are part of a transformative project aimed at addressing the infrastructural gaps in schools within the region, enabling students to learn in a more conducive environment. The NG-CDF’s ongoing efforts to enhance educational facilities are a testament to its commitment to addressing the challenges that hinder academic progress in the country.
In addition to the groundbreaking at Ombasa Primary School, the team also visited St. Joseph Kamwaya Mixed Secondary School, where the construction and equipping of three new classrooms are underway. The visit also included Awendo Primary School, where Hon. Olago and his team conducted a monitoring and evaluation exercise to assess the progress of ongoing NG-CDF-funded projects.
“I am proud to be part of a team that is helping improve the educational infrastructure in Awendo. Education is key to our development, and we must ensure our children have the necessary resources to succeed,” said Hon. Olago during the ceremony.
The event also saw the presence of the Area Member of Parliament, Hon. John Walter Owino, along with technical officers and members of the public. Their support and participation in the event underscore the collective effort to improve the quality of education in Awendo Constituency.
This progress in Awendo comes amidst ongoing scrutiny in the neighbouring Rongo Constituency, where MP Paul Abuor is facing audit queries over the whereabouts of Ksh 42 million allocated for several development projects. This inquiry has raised concerns regarding the use of public funds and has placed pressure on the MP to provide clarity on the matter.
The successful implementation of development projects in Awendo Constituency serves as a model for prudent and transparent use of NG-CDF resources, proving that when funds are managed properly, they can significantly contribute to the betterment of communities.
