The Anzauni Clan has formally petitioned President William Samoei Ruto, urging urgent government intervention to address the Kamba community’s growing concerns regarding insufficient political representation and stalled development in the Ukambani region.
The petition, delivered by the clan’s Patron, Dr. Augustus Kyalo Muli, underscores the critical role the Kamba community played in supporting President Ruto during the 2022 General Elections. Despite this, the clan points out that the community has not been adequately represented within the current administration. They stress that the lack of leadership positions fails to reflect the Kamba people’s vital contribution to national politics.
Currently, the Kamba community has only one Cabinet Secretary in government, a number deemed inadequate to address the region’s diverse and complex needs. The petition calls for the appointment of more Kamba leaders into high-level positions such as Cabinet and Principal Secretaries to promote equity and inclusivity, as guaranteed by Kenya’s Constitution.
In addition to leadership concerns, the petition highlights stalled infrastructure projects like the Thwake Multipurpose Dam and the Kibwezi-Kitui-Mbondoni Road. These projects, if completed, are seen as key to alleviating the region’s water scarcity, poor infrastructure, and unemployment. However, the ongoing delays have left the Kamba community feeling neglected and disillusioned.
Dr. Muli, who was appointed the official spokesperson for the Anzauni Ndene Clan in December 2024, expressed frustration over the lack of progress and called for the immediate revival of these vital projects. He emphasized that completing these initiatives would not only improve the community’s living standards but also foster greater national unity by ensuring no region is left behind.
As President Ruto considers the petition, all eyes are now on the State House to determine how the administration will respond to the demands for greater inclusivity and development in the Ukambani region.
