The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has arrested Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok this morning over allegations of theft of public funds and conflict of interest. The arrest is part of an ongoing operation targeting various premises connected to the governor.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi confirmed the arrest, stating that Barchok was taken into custody by EACC detectives in Bomet County to facilitate the operation, which began earlier today.
“Yes, Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok is in the custody of EACC detectives in Bomet County, facilitating an operation that began this morning,” Ngumbi told The Standard.
Barchok is expected to record a statement at the EACC South Rift Regional Offices in Nakuru. Sources have indicated that investigators are probing a conflict of interest case involving the purchase of road construction equipment worth Ksh 373 million.
The EACC’s operation comes as part of the commission’s ongoing efforts to address corruption and ensure accountability in public office.
