The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has formally notified the Inspector General of the National Police Service of its intention to lead a delegation of the United Opposition leadership to his office on Friday, 30 January 2026 at 10:00 a.m., for the purpose of submitting formal complaints and engaging in discussions on the way forward regarding the safety and security of opposition leaders and their supporters across the country.
This action follows a prolonged period marked by sustained attacks, harassment, intimidation, and violations of constitutional rights directed at opposition leaders and their supporters.
These incidents have occurred in multiple regions of the country and have repeatedly been reported to various police stations and relevant command structures.
However, to date, no investigations, updates, or corrective measures have been communicated or undertaken by the National Police Service, raising serious concerns about accountability, impartiality, and the protection of democratic space.
Since late 2024, the leadership of the Democracy for the Citizens Party and the wider opposition has been subjected to numerous violent and disruptive incidents.

On 20 July 2025 in Subukia, opposition leaders led by Senator John Methu were attacked while attending a church service, and subsequent political rallies were disrupted by police.
On 27 July 2025 in Kinyona, Murang’a County, goons and police allegedly used live ammunition against Senator John Methu, several opposition leaders, and members of the opposition team.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party states that these incidents collectively amount to a grave assault on democratic participation, freedom of assembly, and the rule of law.
The party emphasizes that no Kenyan should be subjected to violence or intimidation on the basis of political affiliation and that the continued targeting of opposition leaders poses a serious threat to national stability and democratic governance.
DCP has expressed its expectation that the office of the Inspector General will receive the United Opposition leadership and accord these matters the seriousness they deserve.
The party calls for immediate investigations, accountability for all perpetrators regardless of status, and concrete measures to guarantee the safety and security of opposition leaders, their supporters, and all citizens exercising their constitutional rights.
The Democracy for the Citizens Party reaffirms its commitment to peaceful political engagement and urges all state institutions to uphold the Constitution, protect democratic freedoms, and act in the best interests of the nation.
