Uwezo fund incepted in the year 2014 and was launched by the former president His excellency Uhuru Kenyatta has impacted many lives across the country,Seme Constituency being one of the Constituemcies whose residents have benefited largely from the fund.
Since 2014,a sum of Ksh. 30.3 million has been disbursed to 235 groups within Seme Constituency making most of the groups to be benefiting for the 5th tike since its inception.
A total of 2647 women from Seme have benefited while the number youths from Seme who have benefited from the fund is 1286 while people living with disability who have benefited from the Uwezo fund is 189 people hence making the sum disbursed since 2014 to stand at ksh30.3 million in total within Seme Constituency only.
Out of the Fifteen groups the highest amount that a group got was ksh.500000 followed by a group that got ksh.400000 and ksh.300000 respectively while others got a sum of 200000 depending on the number years they have been receiving and repaying their loans.
Christine Isdora is the chairlady of Konaro ECD women group in Seme who have benefited several times making them to receive a total of ksh.500000 in this year’s disbursement,she narrates how the fund from the national government has uplifted them financially through doing business and even helping them pay school fees with ease after realising profit from the projects they are doing.
“We started by doing small scale farming and now we are far much ahead because we are doing dairy cows farming plus doing crop farming that allows us to realise profit and repay our loans promtly”, Said Christine.
Another group member Mary Obonyo from Tang’ ne Giri women group who got a total sum of ksh.400000 narrates how they starred their group by paying fees to the opharns and helping Widows through small scale farming.They are now boasting of dairy farming and chicken farming plus venturing into a real estate business through the support of Uwezo fund loans that they take and repay back.”We can now educate the orphans and help widows with alot of ease because we have a income generating business and even pay school fees for our children”,Said Mary.
Another group Kakoki women group from Seme also boasts of owning a tractor which they use for water transport and ploughing for people courtesy of Uwezo fund.
According to the area Member of Parliament Dr.James Nyikal,he urged the residents of Seme and the entire Nyanza Region to come out in large numbers to apply for Uwezo fund because it was brought by the government to help uplift the lively hoods of the people.
” Many people from Nyanza region fear taking loans hence contributing to under development of the people,people do develop with loans hence people should not fear taking loans”, Said Nyikal.
He added that Uwezo fund has impacted many lives because its repayment is at low rate with no pressure as compared to other lenders who exert more pressure to the people.
Nyikal further urged the people of Seme who benefited from Uwezo Fund to ensure they repay back the money to allow others also get.
He also added that the remaining eleven groups will get a sum of ksh.2, 000,000 million in the month of October 2024.
