The Ministry of Health has reported significant progress in the rollout of the Social Health Authority (SHA), with over 12.7 million Kenyans already registered.
This includes former National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) members who have been seamlessly transitioned to the new system.
However, Health Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai highlighted the need for beneficiaries to register their dependents to access the full range of healthcare services.
He emphasized the importance of registering with SHA, which provides access to primary care, emergency services, and specialized treatments like cancer care.
Kimtai assured Kenyans that the SHA registration process is ongoing and can be done through a USSD code or the SHA website.
To facilitate registration, especially for those without smartphones, community health workers will assist with the process.
The Ministry has addressed initial challenges with the electronic claims system, ensuring smooth transitions and the verification of pending bills.
A joint committee will oversee the verification process.
President William Ruto, during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kwale County, reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare access through SHA.
He emphasized that SHA aims to revolutionize healthcare access, making it a basic right for all Kenyans.
