Kithure Kindiki, nominee for reappointment as Cabinet Secretary for Interior and National Administration, appeared before the National Assembly today to address concerns regarding a notable increase in his net worth and his impressive car collection.

During the vetting session, Kindiki provided a detailed account of his financial status, revealing a 28% increase in his net worth, which has risen from Sh544 million to Sh694 million. The increase, he asserted, is entirely legitimate and not a result of any illicit activities.

“I have not benefited from any improper business dealings,” Kindiki stated firmly. He clarified that he has not engaged in any business transactions with the government, nor has he solicited tenders personally or through proxies.

Kindiki attributed the significant rise in his wealth to the continued successful performance of his law firm, which remains operational and is managed by others in his absence. “Before my appointment, my wealth was at Sh544 million. The increase is primarily due to the continued success and revenue from my law firm,” he explained.

He further elaborated on his assets, noting that he owns two homes—one in Nairobi and another in Tharaka Nithi—both valued at Sh190 million each. Additionally, he owns parcels of land and buildings worth Sh235 million and has savings in various saccos and banks. His car collection, valued at Sh17 million, was also disclosed during the session.

This vetting session follows Kindiki’s dismissal by President William Ruto on July 11, in the wake of widespread anti-government protests. His reappointment has attracted significant public and media interest, with the vetting process scrutinizing the legitimacy of his financial growth during his previous tenure.

Kindiki’s responses aim to address public concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest or misuse of public office for personal gain. As the vetting committee deliberates his reappointment, Kindiki’s statements are intended to demonstrate his commitment to transparency and ethical conduct in public service.

The outcome of the vetting process will play a crucial role in determining Kindiki’s future role in the government amidst the current politically charged environment.
