The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) strongly condemns the recent celebratory actions by newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries, who have chosen to host homecoming parties in their local areas despite the ongoing national mourning for the youth who lost their lives during recent peaceful protests.
LDP criticizes President Ruto’s appointees, including Joho, Mbadi, Oparanya, and Opiyo Wandayi, for their decision to celebrate while families and communities are grieving the loss of their loved ones, who were tragically killed by police during the protests. It is profoundly inappropriate and disrespectful to celebrate in the face of such sorrow.
Denise Kodhe, Secretary General of LDP, denounces this behavior as indicative of a troubling self-interest among politicians, who seem more concerned with personal gain than with the well-being of those who elected them. He underscores the stark contrast between the ongoing grief of the affected families—some of whom are still searching for unclaimed bodies in mortuaries—and the celebratory actions of these public figures.
Kodhe calls upon Kenyan citizens, especially the younger generations, to reflect on the current state of affairs and join LDP in forming a unified movement to advocate for genuine change. As the country looks towards the 2027 General Elections, he urges millennials and the Alpha Generation to remain steadfast in their pursuit of justice and reform.
