Maseno School, the historic bedrock of Kenyan academia where the equator meets excellence, has announced a sweeping Sh2 billion redevelopment masterplan to mark its 120th anniversary.
The ambitious roadmap, unveiled by the newly formed Old Boys and Friends of Maseno School Foundation, seeks to bridge the institution’s storied missionary past with a high-tech future, ensuring it remains a premier center for leadership and innovation.
Founded in 1906 by missionary John Willis, the school’s humble origins beginning with a small cohort of students under a tree belie its massive impact on the nation’s history.
The campus has served as the proving ground for some of the continent’s most influential figures, ininclude, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga who was the first Kenya’s vice President and a former mathematics teacher at the school and Barack Obama Sr. Who was also a renowned economist and father of the 44th U. S president.
President William Ruto is expected to headline the anniversary celebrations on the school grounds.
The event promises a deep dive into the school’s heritage, featuring curated historical exhibitions and student performances that chart Maseno’s journey from a colonial era mission school to a national powerhouse.
The Ksh.2 billion redevelopment plan is not merely a facelift but a strategic overhaul designed to transform the campus into a modern Centre of Excellence.
Key pillars of the project include Infrastructure Upgrade, the Foundations and Scholarship Fund:
The 120-year celebrations coincide with a significant academic resurgence under Chief Principal Peter Owino.
Following the school’s best KCSE performance since 2015, the administration has doubled down on its “2026 Academic Strategic Plan.”
”We are targeting a mean grade above 11.0,” noted Dean of Studies Patrick Mboya. “Our goal is simple: 100 percent university placement for every candidate who walks through these gates.”
